Sports Academy was opening a yoga studio in Calabasas and reached out to us for some interior signs. They are located upstairs from Pedalers Fork and 10 Speed Coffee who referred us to her. She was considering a few different types of wall signs and window signs, but they were getting closer to the grand opening so they decided to focus on the most important sign first, which was the logo sign to go above the door. Yoga is just one program that Sports Academy offers which is why the sign reads “Yoga by Sports Academy” with the Sports Academy logo.

We were initially considering painted aluminum, but the sign needed to be up fairly quickly so we decided to use black Sintra. Painting a sign can add a significant amount of time, and Sintra already comes in black so it would not only cut down on manufacturing time, it would also reduce the cost of the sign creating a larger budget for future signs. Sintra is a brand name PVC board. We only use brand name products for our signs to assure that our signs are of the highest quality.

The Sintra we used to make the sign was 1/4″ thick. 1/4″ is a good thickness for dimensional letters unless you’re looking for something with a lot of depth and dimension. 1/4″ plastic or metal is light enough that it can be mounted with 3M VHB and silicone. If you want to mount a plastic with spacers, you would need to go just one level up to 3/8″ thick material so studs can be tapped into the letters. Metal is more rigid, so 1/4″ metal letters can be mounted with spacers.

The letters and the logo were routed from the Sintra based on the logo we received from the customer. We also create a pattern based on the logo for installation to make sure that all of the components of the logo are in the right place.
