We added dimensional lettering on an existing monument sign for Loyola Marymount University’s new school, Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television. The new lettering helps people locate the school, and advertises at the same time. You can see from the photos that the red lettering isn’t too overpowering, but can still be seen clearly as you’re driving by.

The client provided us with a mockup and artwork of what they wanted the monument sign to look like which made the design process much easier. Some clients come to us with an idea for a sign but are unsure of what they want it to look like which can delay the production until we’ve finalized a design. If you have a designer that can create mockups for you, you can see many different versions of what you’re sign can look like. If you provide that mockup to us, we can easily provide a quote for the sign and recommend material and fabrication options.

Since we knew exactly what the sign needed to look like, we just needed to get the measurements of the existing monument sign to get the exact dimensions for the new letters we were making. We were also working on other signs for the school so we got interior and exterior sign area measurements in one trip. Once we determined the size of the letters and the proof was approved by the client, we started production. Although this is an exterior sign, it did not require a sign permit because it is not technically a new sign, we are just adding to the face of an existing sign.

The letters were flat-cut from 1/4″ thick acrylic, and custom painted to the color requested by the client. The existing address lettering that was on the monument sign is also dimensional, so the new letters complement the existing letters very well.
