TOIBB Enterprises owns a shopping center in Simi Valley, and they were looking for a company to make them a new monument sign. The property has two monument signs, and one of them got damaged so it needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we’ve had to repair or remake a sign that was damaged. Since monument signs are typically installed near the street, they can be subject to damage. TOIBB Enterprises definitely wanted to replace it because monument signs are very important to multi-tenant shopping centers. Monument signs like these are typically installed at each opening to the parking lot and can be either illuminated or non-illuminated. They list all of the tenants in the shopping center to both advertise and to help those who are looking for a specific business.
This sign is a double-sided aluminum sign that is internally illuminated. Although the new sign looked the same as the old one, the city still required us to pull a permit. All exterior signs require a permit from the city, including storefront signs, building signs, pole signs, and monument signs just to name a few. However, when you are switching out the faces on an existing monument sign, you do not need a permit. Luckily, we were able to re-use four of the existing faces so we just provided one blank face for either side.
Because the sign is internally illuminated and double-sided, cars driving by on either side of the street will be able to see which businesses are in this plaza during the daytime and at nighttime.
