PH2, a post-production company, came to us for ADA compliant signs. They own a floor of The Burbank Tower so they needed a total of 29 interior wall signs which included evacuation maps, exit stair down/exit route signs, restroom signs, and room ID signs. We gave these signs a very modern look by using a black backer with white lettering. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation. The current regulation of design standards requires these facilities to have both Braille and raised type for individuals who don’t read Braille. For the signs we made for PH2 we started with a piece of acrylic that we painted black on the 2nd surface (the backside) and all of them were rectangular shapes aside from the restroom signs which are a triangle for the men’s room and circle for the women’s. The lettering is the required 1/32″ thick with Braille translation applied underneath the lettering.
There are also specific regulations regarding the placement of the signs which include both the locations and the height at which they are displayed. Because of this, we can also assist with installation. To make sure all of the signs are made according to regulation, we will come to your business to do a site survey before starting the sign fabrication starts to make sure of the exact size they should be. This also helps us discuss design options with you.
