Lobby signs are typically logo signs that are installed on the lobby wall, above a doorway, or behind a reception desk. But in some cases, like this sign we made for XRM Media, we install a logo sign directly on a reception desk. If the sign is non-illuminated, we can typically install it directly onto the desk, however, if the sign is going to be illuminated there is additional work that needs to go into the installation along with the fabrication of the sign. The client created a 5″ deep recessed area in the desk and the sign was installed onto plywood. A raceway was necessary for the electrical components which was placed inside of the desk and electricity was brought to the location by the client.

The interior sign is also a compound channel letter sign so it is both front-lit and reverse-lit. The letters needed to be spaced off of the surface for the LEDs to shine, so we used 1 1/2″ spacers for installation. The channel letters were 3 1/2″ deep, and since the recess where the sign was going into was 5″ deep, the faces of the letters were flush with the face of the desk. This was an important detail so the sign didn’t protrude out from the desk, but could still be seen from different angles.
