Famous Apples was opening their first physical location at the Northridge Fashion Center and found us online while they were looking for a local company to make their signage. Malls can be very specific about the type of signage that can be put up so the sign criteria is one of the first things we ask for when a client is located inside of a mall. Famous Apples already had a few renderings for what they had in mind for the interior and exterior of the business which they provided to us. Their rendering showed an illuminated oval shape with their logo on it. The logo didn’t need to be dimensional so we thought that a custom front-lit channel letter box would work best.
The mall is not too far from our shop as we are in Chatsworth. We went to where their new location was going to be to do a site survey. Along with getting the storefront measurements, we also surveyed their neighbor’s signs. We also took a look at the blade signs as Famous Apples was considering blade sign too.
Once we had the proper measurements, we were able to provide them with an accurate quote based on the rendering they provided. During proofing, the only changes we made were a couple of font changes. Once we had proof approval from the client and the landlord we were able to apply for the permit. We don’t start production until a permit is secured in case the city requests any changes.
To make the front-lit channel letter box, first, we start with bending aluminum coil to the custom oval shape. The face was routed from 3/16″ translucent white acrylic in the same oval shape. The red and black lettering was cut from translucent red and black vinyl, but the apple was digitally printed due to the shading and gradient present in the logo.
