Sugar Free Shack in Torrance, California needed a sign for their new bakery. The business was fairly new and although one of the owners had a following from their online business, Cute Yummy Cakes, they needed to get the word out about their new brick-and-mortar location, Sugar Free Shack. As you can see from the photo, we made them a fun storefront sign to identify the location. We also helped them finalize their logo to emphasize on what their business focuses on, which is creating healthier alternatives for baked goods.

The reason we made them a channel letter sign was because they wanted to be able to advertise the business at nighttime. The colors of the logo were important so we made them a front-lit channel letter sign. Reverse-lit channel letters can be painted any color, however, at nighttime, all you can see is the illumination from the LEDs and the letters themselves are dark. We do have different colored LEDs, but the illumination will just be around the letters. If showing your logo colors is important, you want to go with front-lit channel letters.

They had a pretty good idea of what they wanted the logo to look like, we just helped vectorize it and added a few details. There is one version where there is a cake in the “shack”, and another where it’s a cupcake. They wanted to use the cupcake version for the sign. For both options, we also did two layouts, one where the letters were stacked, and another where they were linear. We needed to use the linear one for the sign due to the space we had to work with, but the stacked version can work better depending on what it’s being used for. For example, the stacked logo may look better on packaging while the linear one works better for a sign.
