Having a monument sign custom made by a sign company like Resource 4 Signs is important because we have the expertise to design a sign that is personalized to your business and will be up to the city’s sign code. Exterior signs need a sign permit, and in order to secure a permit, we need approval from the customer, the landlord/property manager, and the city. The landlord or property manager may have specifications we need to meet, but the city code supersedes any other specifications. Monument signs are installed into the ground so there is more work involved in the permitting process compared to most building signs.
We made two monument signs for an office building in Goleta, California. We recently did exterior signs for the actual building which you can read about here. Both signs are the same size and they are aluminum box signs with tenant panels. Tenant or multi-tenant monument signs are very popular for office buildings and also shopping centers. The signs typically have changeable faces for the tenants and the address number. Tenant monument signs can be illuminated or non-illuminated; these were non-illuminated meaning they are not internally illuminated for visibility at nighttime. You can, however, add your own external lighting to a non-illuminated monument sign if you want it to be seen after dark.
Both of these signs are double-sided aluminum box signs that were powder-coated. The address is made from brushed aluminum vinyl which has the reflectiveness of metal and is a great alternative to solid letters if the text doesn’t need to be 3-dimensional. The tenant panels are also made from powder-coated aluminum and the logos are made from brushed aluminum vinyl. The tenant panels are made as separate and removable pieces so the information can be changed or updated as needed.
